My general treatment approach is to provide therapy in a collaborative, relationally focused and evidenced based manner. I adjust my approach with each individual depending on his or her goals. I have experience utilizing a systems approach, cognitive-behavioral therapy, trauma informed interventions, solution focused therapy, positive behavior support and mindfulness. These theories are a good match for working with individuals experiencing a wide variety of behavioral health challenges including: anxiety, depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, aggression, and acting out behaviors, as well as substance abuse.
I believe therapy starts with a mutual understanding of the challenges that pushed the individual toward seeking therapy and a shared vision for the future. Like any journey, sometimes once we start, revisions to the plan need to be made. Many times this journey includes learning and practicing new skills, gaining new experiences, looking at things from a variety of perspectives as well as recognizing and building strengths.
When working with children or youth, I focus on the system as a whole while honoring the uniqueness of each person and their family.
